Management of Unerupted Canines - MSE Local Guidelines
Message from: Shree Patel Orthodontic Registrar (ST2) Southend Hospital
I have recently undertaken an audit at Southend University Hospital for referrals for unerupted maxillary canines. Specifically, the age of the patient at the time of referral to ensure that they are assessed and managed appropriately.
There is a flowchart to aid your assessment if you detect an unerupted canine and which setting you should refer to.
As you are aware, there are long waiting times for any oral surgery procedure within the hospital. So by following the above guidance we can help reduce the risk of consequences associated with unerupted canines.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me:
We can only include the South of Essex as this is our catchment area.
